MID-HUDSON – Dry conditions and warm temperatures have created the perfect storm for brush fires across the region. Firefighters have been battling blazes in Dutchess, Orange, Putnam Sullivan and Ulster counties.
Among the most severe ones, which erupted on Sunday, continued to burn
in Sullivan County on Monday along Shawanga Lodge Road and Fire Tower
Road in Summitville. The flames continued to move east toward Route 52
under wind-driven conditions with an estimated 800 acres scorched.
In Cragsmoor area of Ulster County, homes in the area of a large woods fire were evacuated near Route 52 and Rockanne Drive.
