MONTICELLO – A former Sullivan County man, who fled to California in 2012 after police attempted to arrest him for possessing a large amount of marijuana and weapons, has been arrested in California and returned to Sullivan County.
Police said Daniel McKoy, 30, most recently of Marin County, California, was arrested and extradited back to New York where he was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, unlawful imprisonment, criminal possession of marijuana, reckless endangerment, menacing and endangering the welfare of a child.
On February 4, 2012, police allege that McKoy, believing a neighbor had stolen a large amount of marijuana from his apartment, held the man at gunpoint demanding that he give back the drug.
Neighbors saw what was happening and called State Police, but when they arrived, McKoy fled into the wood and was not apprehended. He eventually made his way to California where he came to the attention of local authorities.
When police searched his Wurtsboro apartment after he fled, they found a large quantity of marijuana and several weapons including the one he used against his neighbor.
McKoy is being held without bail in the Sullivan County Jail.
