PEEKSKILL – A chlorine spill from
a truck outside the Peekskill Middle School by Ringgold Street Friday
morning has resulted in the evacuation of the school.

Superintendent Larry Licopoli said fire officials advised school personnel
to evacuate the students to Peekskill High School. All students and staff
walked to the high school gymnasium.

A handful of students were reported to have been taken to the hospital
for observation as a result of chlorine inhalation and then brought to
the high school.

The Middle School was closed at 11:45 a.m. and students and staff were
allowed back in after 3 p.m. to pick up their personal belongings.

The cleanup of the spill was expected to take several hours.
