Man charged in connection with fire that destroyed a Middleltown building

MIDDLETOWN – A Middletown man has been arrested and charged in connection with the devastating fire that destroyed a building at 14 Union Street in the city late in the morning of Thursday, April 9.
Middletown City Police said it is believed that Christopher Viol, 24, set the fire accidentally while smoking a cigarette.  He was charged with criminal trespass and criminal mischief, both as misdemeanors.
The building was later razed.
