NEWBURGH – A Newburgh man was arrested Monday evening for allegedly killing of another Newburgh resident outside a bar in the city in the early morning hours of April 3.
Alvaro Ramos-Lopez, 26, was charged with murder in the death of Armando Soriano-Martel, 40, of Newburgh, who was beaten to death with a metal pipe that was recovered at the scene outside Rey Del Pollo Bar and Restaurant at 394 Washington Street.
The reason for the altercation between the two men is unknown.
Ramos-Lopez was located in the Town of Mount Pleasant and arrested by police there.
“The case will go before a grand jury later on this month. Obviously the defendant was arrested for murder in the second degree for allegedly killing an individual on April 3 outside a bar in the City of Newburg,” said Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler.  “It’s alleged that he hit him repeatedly with a pipe.”
No other suspects are being sought in Newburgh’s first homicide of the year.
The case was investigated by Newburgh City Police, State Police Major Crimes Unit and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
