KINGSTON – Ulster County Executive
Michael Hein is expected to sign a local law banning the use of polystyrene
foam disposable food service ware used by food service establishments
in the county.

No one spoke at a Tuesday public hearing on the measure, which passed
the county legislature recently.

Hein said it is one component of a sound environmental policy.

“It is important that we continually work towards becoming more
and more environmentally friendly while still understanding the importance
of being friendly to our business owners,” he said. “This
is a thoughtful piece of legislation that I really want to commend the
legislature for working all the way through and I look forward to signing
it in the next couple of days.”
Those foam containers are non-recyclable and are not biodegradable.
