Unemployment continues its decline in Hudson Valley

WHITE PLAINS – Putnam County continued
to have the lowest unemployment rate in the region in February at 4.9
percent, lower than the Hudson Valley’ 5.3 percent rate.

Columbia County came in second in the region with a 5.1 percent rate of
joblessness, a full point lower than the same month last year. Rockland
County also scored 5.1 percent while Westchester had a 5.2 percent rate,
Dutchess had a 5.3 percent rate, Orange County had a 5.4 percent rate,
and Ulster County had a 5.8 percent rate.

Ulster County’s rate of joblessness was 5.8 percent in February
while in Greene County it was 6.8 percent and Sullivan County had a 7.0
percent rate.

In February, there were 57,800 people unemployed in the Hudson Valley,
down from 59,900 in January and 69,400 in February of last year.
