WASHINGTON – FEMA will fund the almost $4.4 million for the Village of Grand View-on-Hudson to build a new village hall since the previous one was severely damaged during Hurricane Sandy and later condemned.
The FEMA grant will cover 90 percent of the costs to build a new one and its contents, or $4.4 million. The total cost is almost $4.9 million.
During Sandy, the village hall had 18 inches of river water flow into its lowest floor. One of two decks was completely ripped off the building, windows broke from the wind, and the building twisted on its foundation.
The village hall will be rebuilt, raised out of the flood zone and will be moved closer to the road, moving it away from sitting directly over the Hudson River.
The announcement of the federal funding came from Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand and Congresswoman Nita Lowey.
