MONTICELLO – The Village of Monticello will bond for up to $7.6 million to pay for a water system improvement project.
The village board authorized moving forward on Friday.
The USDA will provide $1.25 million in a combination of a loan and grants and Village Manager David Sager said the next step before putting a shovel in the ground is to set all of the financing in place.
“We are trying to make sure we are moving through the application process by March 31 so we don’t miss out on funding opportunities,” Sager said.  “I would hope certainly that it would move forward late summer or early fall if not from there. There is a lot to be done. We are just trying to worry about making sure that the village goes through all of the necessary procedures so that we don’t lose the funding stream.”
The work will include upgrading the water treatment plant, replacing several sewer lines and fire hydrants.
