MONTICELLO – The Sullivan West School District will get a school resource officer. A county deputy sheriff will fill that role now that the district requested one and the Sullivan County Legislature has approved it.
Chairman Scott Samuelson said the costs will be borne by both the district and the county.
“We gave the sheriff permission to send somebody to the academy. In September they will graduate from the academy,” Samuelson said.  “That person will go into the sheriff’s road patrol and a seasoned officer will then become the SRO in the school.”
The school district will fund three-quarters of the cost while the county will pick up one-quarter.
Last year, the county legislature approved SROs for Livingston Manor, Monticello and Tri-Valley school districts.
