NEWBURGH – A pot party in a Newburgh basement apartment led to
the arrest of a 16-year-old youth for possession of a loaded handgun.
City Police were called to a report of loud musing coming from 17 Liberty
Street late in the afternoon on Saturday, March 7. They smelled burning
marijuana, entered the apartment and located a large crowd listening to
music and smoking pot.
Officers announced themselves and spotted the 16-year-old squat down and
place the gun on the floor. The weapon was secured and the youth, whose
name police did not release, was arrested.
The gun was discovered stolen from Cortlandt.
The teen was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and criminal
possession of stolen property, both as felonies.
Several others in the apartment were issued appearance tickets for unlawful
possession of marijuana.
The investigation into the incident is continuing.
