KINGSTON – Ulster County Comptroller Elliott Auerbach urged Assemblywoman Catherine Nolan, chairwoman of the Committee on Education, to support SUNY New Paltz Dean Dr. Gerald Benjamin for a position on the state Board of Regents.
Benjamin is challenging incumbent Regent Lester Young, Jr. of Brooklyn for the seat.
The Regents are responsible for the general supervision of all educational activities in the state, presiding over the University and New York State Education Department.
“Dr. Benjamin is a man of sound character who has dedicated his life to service,” Auerbach said on Thursday. “His continued dedication to learning and education as the unofficial ‘Dean of New York Government’ through his role as the director of the Center for Research, Regional Education and Outreach has benefited the State of New York through his tireless dedication to the development of sound policy.”
