KINGSTON – Assemblyman Kevin Cahill (D, Kingston) would still like to afford resorts in the Catskills the ability to offer video lottery gaming in the wake of the selection of Empire Resorts to build a Las Vegas-style casino in Sullivan County.
The Nevele in Ellenville was in the running, but with that rejected, Cahill would like to see some video lottery terminals approved in existing resorts.
“These are not intended to compete with the casinos,” Cahill said.  “These are meant to complement existing resorts that might attract people that might have other members of their family take advantage of what the resort is known for and give them something to do. It’s an added bonus.”
Cahill would have liked his bill approved in special session late last year. That session was never held.
The lawmaker said once the full casino licenses are issued shortly, he believes the operators will have a vested interest to block any new VLT operations from being approved.
