MIDDLETOWN – The rough winter with its snow, sleet and ice have depleted many communities’ road salt supplies.
In Middletown, the common council Tuesday night approved another $136,340 to purchase an additional 2,700 tons of salt.
City Public Works Commissioner Jacob Tawil said Middletown would be crippled without an ample supply.
“You know how our city becomes without salt, especially on ice or freezing rain event,” Tawil said. “The whole thing would be paralyzed; police cannot go anywhere, fire department, ambulance.”.
The money for the supply was transferred from the general fund balance.
