KINGSTON – A Kingston man who faced charges that he slashed a 15-year-old boy with a knife in the City of Kingston back on December 22, 2012, pled guilty in Ulster County Court on Wednesday.
The trial for Edward Evans, 37, on charges of assault and criminal possession of a weapon, had just commenced when he pled guilty.
Evans, who has an extensive criminal record dating back to 1997 including for six misdemeanor convictions and three felony drug convictions, offered no motive for the attack that left the victim with slash wounds to his left wrist. He sustained a severed tendon and nerve damage as a result.
Several witnesses to the crime, including three children, indicated that Evans was angry and felt that the victim had been disrespectful.
When sentenced in April, Evans faces up to seven years in state prison.
