Columbia County woman charged with illegally collecting over $11k in employment benefits

HUDSON – State Police arrested a Hudson woman on felony charges of grand larceny and offering a false instrument for filing in connection with a bogus unemployment insurance claim.
Maria Ruiz, 44, was arrested on Tuesday after an investigation with the state labor department. She is accused if collecting over $11,000 worth of unemployment benefits between March 2012 and March 2013 to which she was not entitled.  False business records were generated by Ruiz when she certified weekly that she was unemployed when she was actually gainfully employed.
She was arraigned and released on her own recognizance pending a future court appearance.
