Wallkill sells street signs as part of its pride and branding effort

Depew says the $30 signs, available for purchase, are part of the
town’s effort to boost its image and
pride among its residents.

TOWN OF WALLKILL – You might like the name of the street you live on. Perhaps it’s an old local family name or just has sentimental value.
The Town of Wallkill is now selling beautiful new brown street signs with the town logo on them and you can purchase one for your street or road for just $30, and the old green one will become your personal property to adorn a garage wall.
The town, which is often confused with the adjacent City of Middletown, has five postal zones, five school districts and seven fire districts adding to the confusion, noted Town Supervisor Daniel Depew.
“I really believe in my heart that the Town of Wallkill is a high end town and if we don’t start shaping ourselves up to look that way, there is a loss in value,” Depew said. “I want businesses to locate here. I want people to build their businesses here. I want families to live here. I want you to buy your home here. I want you to stay here. I want you to retire, but if you don’t really know where that is and it is not dressed up, then we lose that value.”
The Route 211 shopping corridor, with everything from strip malls to a mega-mall, are all in Wallkill, but are often mentioned as being in Middletown.
To avoid confusion, the town has installed new Wallkill logo signs in various locations including along busy Route 17.
