Newburgh man gets 14 years for knifepoint assault in Middletown


GOSHEN – A 22-year-old Newburgh man
was sentenced in Orange County Court to 14 years in state prison for the
knifepoint assault of a man during a robbery in Middletown.

On September 27, 2014, Edgar Lugo and another man, Eric Martinez, 21,
of Newburgh, who has been charged separately, robbed two men separately
at knifepoint in Middletown and during the course of the second robbery,
Lugo stabbed his victim several times with a knife before stealing his
cash and wallet.

The victim was found in a pool of blood and was treated for life threatening
injuries at Orange Regional Medical Center. He has since recovered.

Both Martinez and Lugo were arrested by Middletown City Police.

On January 8, Lugo pled guilty to felony assault. On Tuesday, Judge Jeffrey
Berry sentenced him to prison and ordered him to pay $73,000 toward the
victim’s medical bills.

Martinez pled guilty to felony robbery and is expected to be sentenced
next month.
