MONTICELLO – A Town of Bethel man, who is a registered sex offender, has been arrested for failing to report his Internet access.
William Evans, Jr., 64, of 81 Fairweather Road in Swan Lake, appeared at the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Patrol Office on Wednesday to conduct the required 90 day certification of his address.
Under the sex offender law, he is required to disclose any vehicles he has and any Internet accounts that belong to him. Deputies discovered that Evans, who is a level three offender, had several email and Facebook accounts.
“The Internet accounts had been opened between the time when he was first required to register and his most recent visit to our office on Wednesday,” said Sheriff Michael Schiff.
Evans was committed to the Sullivan County Jail without bail pending a future court appearance.
