POUGHKEEPSIE – The Brooklyn man, who was captured on videotape beating his dog “Gizmo” in a Poughkeepsie park in late December, turned himself into City of Poughkeepsie Police on Tuesday.
Theophilus Burke, 37, had been identified as the man who brutalized his dog, a two- to three-year-old Maltese. A Dutchess County Court arrest warrant had been issued for Burke’s arrest on an animal cruelty charge.
The dog was recovered in Brooklyn on January 29, checked out to be okay and is being sheltered locally.
