MONTICELLO – The economy of Sullivan County is showing signs of improvement with the region’s only full-scale casino coming right around the corner.
It may not be up and running for about two years, but the economy is growing already in anticipation of the venue, said Sullivan County Partnership President Marc Baez.
“We have already seen a dramatic uptick in sales tax for Sullivan County, which is an indicator, of course, of the things that are happening and being built in the area,” Baez said. “Tourism numbers are up as well and I would imagine that you are going to see significant increases specifically beginning this summer on the job creation based on some of the anticipated development that is going to take place.”
The most current employment numbers, for December, showed Sullivan continuing to decline in new jobs with a slight increase in unemployment.
