Job growth continues; Columbia, Greene top state increases

ALBANY – New jobs in the greater Hudson
Valley for the 12 months ending in December 2014 rose by 0.8 percent.

The largest percentage of growth in the state was in Columbia and Greene
counties, each of which saw a three percent increase.

Ulster County came in second in the region with 2.2 percent job growth,
followed by Dutchess-Orange County at 0.9 percent and Putnam-Rockland-Westchester
at 0.6 percent.

Sullivan County was the only county in the red with a drop of 0.5 percent
in new jobs.

Employment gains were the strongest in leisure and hospitality; educational
and health services; natural resources, mining and construction; and other
services. Losses centered in financial activities; trade, transportation
and utilities; manufacturing; and professional and business services.
The government sector shed 2,800 jobs over the year.
