Husband sentenced in domestic violence shooting death

WHITE PLAINS – A Yonkers man was sentenced Wednesday to 25 years in prison for shooting his wife to death on October 12, 2013.
Jose Contreras, 53, was convicted last November of manslaughter for shooting Sharon Contreras in the chest, killing her.
Video surveillance inside the Yonkers building where the assault took place captured Contreras getting onto the elevator on the 11th floor and going out of the lobby covered in blood.  When he was picked up by Yonkers Police a short time later, he had blood all over his arms, hands, shoes, pants and carrying his shirt.
The gun used in the murder was located by a police K-9 in a vacant lot nearby.
“This shooting was the product of years of arguments, fights and abuse,” said Westchester District Attorney Janet DiFiore. “Although the defendant’s wife was the principal victim his actions affected their children who now must live with the loss of their mother and the fact that their father will now effectively spend the rest of his life in prison.”
