Would be bank robber caught

POUGHKEEPSIE – A state parolee, who
allegedly tried to hold up a bank branch in the City of Poughkeepsie Tuesday
afternoon, was arrested moments later.

William Byrne, 50, was detained without incident by police officers in
the area of Garden and Mansion streets after he walked into the Chase
Bank branch at 285 Main Street at 12:22 p.m. and handed a teller a note.
He did not receive any proceeds from the bank and fled on foot toward
Garden Street.

Byrne, who was wanted by the state Division of Parole, was charged with
felony attempted robbery.
