GOSHEN – Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus announced on Thursday that he supports Governor Cuomo’s proposed property tax credit program. The governor announced it the day before.
Taxpayers with incomes below $250,000 would qualify for the credit, which would be valued at up to 50 percent of the amount by which property taxes exceed the six percent burden threshold.
Neuhaus said the plan is the next logical progression following the state tax cap.
“The property tax cap was really meant to slow down the growth of government and the growth of taxes,” the county exec said.
“What this property tax cut does it starts going into the real heart of the matter, which is the existing levels of property taxes.”
Statewide the average tax relief would be $956.
