MONTICELLO – Business owners from the Monticello/Thompson area put their heads together Thursday evening as a first step toward drawing more business once the Empire Resorts’ casino, hotel and conference center are built in two years.
The Monticello Business Association, headed by Jeffrey Siegel, discussed
the need to, in some cases, spruce up the interiors and exteriors of their
businesses, train workers and market themselves to visitors coming to
Sullivan County.
“If the business community is ready and the business community, as a community, their marketing materials and whatnot are all together, the stores look nice, the staff is trained, you will be able to pull some of those people to come into town,” he said.
Siegel said it will take about one year for the business community put its marketing plans in place to be able to accommodate the influx of new residents and visitors to the area.
