| Tyner takes his environmental message on the road |
||
RHINEBECK – He’s a familiar sight on the roads of Dutchess County. County Legislator Joel Tyner is chairman of the Environment Committee, and he has been championing the cause to clean the environment for years. He can often be seen walking up and down Route 9 from Poughkeepsie to Rhinebeck, sometimes carrying signs or banners, promoting a specific environmental cause. On Thursday he stood on a street corner in Rhinebeck with a few others holding a large billboard sign and handing out flyers to motorists as they drove by. Among the causes he was pushing was the level of CO2 in the air. "We learned in April that the carbon dioxide level in the atmosphere went up over two parts per million last year-- more than twice as fast as it was going up just two decades ago," he said. "We are at 385 parts per million now. We need to go down to 350 parts per million." And that’s where the website, www.350.org comes in. Tyner is pushing the clean air agenda on that site. |
