ARKVILLE – The Catskill Center for Conservation and Development has named Lisa Rainwater as its new executive director.

In recent years, Rainwater was the policy director for the Riverkeeper organization, a Hudson Valley based environmental group that opposes the continued operation and relicensing of the Indian Point nuclear power plants.

In her new position, Rainwater will continue the work of the Catskill Center.

“We’re going to really trying to focus on revitalizing communities along the Route 28 corridor and deep into the Catskills as we move forward for sustainable living and protection of the environment as we work toward these goals,” she said.

In addition to promoting sustainable economic development in the Catskill region, the organization will continue its work with educators to bring a sense of place to the communities and school children and will place a great deal of attention on the arts and culture of the region, Rainwater said.
