NEWBURGH – Yaniyah Pearson has been named director of the recently created City of Newburgh Department of Human Services. The department encompasses the Youth Bureau, Youth and Family services, after-school programs, senior recreation services, and the Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department. The purpose of the new department is to work with other departments, community partners and concerned residents to maximize the ability to serve the people of the city. “Newburgh is a city rich in natural resources, our beautiful waterfront, historic buildings and its residents,” she said. “Our services are designed to enhance the human potential of, not only our children, but of all residents.” Pearson said it is important to identify services and build on strengths, “provide a pathway to success for our children and young adults, and provide opportunities for a meaningful life for our elders.” Pearson, a Newburgh resident, brings 27 years of experience in the field of youth program development to her new job. In 1996, she started and operated YouthBuild Brownsville, a vocational and leadership development program for young adults in Brooklyn. |
