Monticello’s IMPACT initiative fights crime

MONTICELLO – Monticello Village Police, in conjunction with other law enforcement agencies, has netted 189 arrests in the first quarter of the 2008 IMPACT Patrol Initiative.

The first quarter 2008 initiative started on April 1 and ended June 30. During that time, village PD made a total of 682 arrests.

Police Chief Douglas Solomon said the $60,000 annual grant from the state Division of Criminal Justice Services is used to fund the program.

The money is used to pay for police officer overtime. The State Police team up with Monticello officers and double the patrol strength, said the chief.

Of those arrests made in the last three-month period, 74 were drug related, 41 were felony arrests, 44 were for persons wanted on a warrant, nine were for DWI or DWAI by drugs, and 40 were for driving with a suspended driver’s license or registration.

Seven firearms were recovered as a result of arrests or investigations.
