STEWART AIRPORT – Boeing will build 15 new C-17 Globemaster III cargo planes for the Air Force and the big question is where will they be placed?

The New York Air National Guard Base at Stewart Airport has 13 C-5A Galaxy aircraft, which date back to 1969.

But, whether any of the new planes will be assigned to Newburgh remains to be seen, New York Military and Naval Affairs spokesman Eric Durr told MidHudsonNews.com.

“We can’t say at this time what might or might not happen with the 105th Airlift wing,” he said. “The New York Air National Guard would hope to see a conversion to a more modern aircraft for the 105th, but at this time it’s something that is being hoped for. There’s no specific word.”

The price tag for the 15 new jets is $3.6 billion.
