Lalor announces third line |

EAST FISHKILL – Republican-Conservative congressional candidate Kieran Lalor Wednesday called incumbent 19th District Democrat John Hall an “eco-extremist.” Standing at a gas station in East Fishkill, Lalor said Hall has been trying to shut down the Indian Point nuclear power plant for years. And, Lalor said nuclear power must be part of the total picture in pulling away from foreign oil. Lalor, who announced that he will be on a third line on the November ballot, the Energy Security Now line, announced he had secured 6,210 signatures to be placed on that independent party line. His plan for new sources of energy has several points. “We need to reduce oil prices and reduce our dependence on foreign oil and the way to do that is to domestically drill more, refine more, tax oil less, regulate less and at the same time, encourage innovation,” he said. “If we did those five things, we would we have is lower gas and home heating oil prices in the short run, and because of the encouragement of innovation, we’d have lower prices in the long run.” Lalor said the country also needs to encourage conservation of energy and enforce consumer protection laws. Hall, who is at the Democratic National Convention, was unavailable for comment. |
