Haverstraw man sentenced to prison for rape of young girl

NEW CITY – A Haverstraw man was sentenced in Rockland County Court to 18 years in state prison on his December 2018 guilty plea to first-degree rape.

Between February 1, 2015 and March 31, 2015, Nathaniel Saunders had sex with a girl under the age of 13 in the Village of Haverstraw.

In addition to the prison sentence, Saunders faces 10 years of post-release supervision and must register as a sex offender.

“I hope this sentence brings some measure of comfort to the victim and her family knowing that a dangerous sexual predator will no longer be a threat to her safety or to that of other children,” said District Attorney Kevin Gilleece.

The case was investigated by Town of Haverstraw Police with assistance from the Special Victims Unit of the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office.
