Man pleads guilty in Middletown shooting

GOSHEN – A Middletown man pled guilty in Orange County Court on Tuesday to felony assault in connection with the August 2018 shooting of another Middletown man.

At the time he pled guilty before Judge Robert Freehill, Modesto Santiago, 21, admitted that on August 30, 2018 he shot a man on Monhagen Avenue in Middletown with a .380 caliber pistol. He was arrested the following day.

The victim was hospitalized.

The district attorney’s office will recommend that Santiago be sentenced to 12 years in state prison and five years of post-release supervision when he returns to court next month.

District Attorney David Hoovler said his office “will continue to work with all law enforcement partners in reducing gun violence and will seek severe state prison sentences for all those who use illegally possessed guns to settle their disputes.”
