Tank truck full of diesel crashes, shuts down Crawford road

No injuries reported and little of the 10,000 gallons of diesel spilled

CRAWFORD – A tractor-trailer said to contain over 10,000 gallons of diesel fuel skidded, lost control and overturned on Route 17K west at Union School Road in the Town of Crawford just before 10 Sunday morning.

The state Department of Environmental Conservation said no one was injured and “some petroleum spilled onto the roadway and surrounding area.”

An environmental cleanup crew was called in to remediate the fuel contamination in a wetlands area.

The state Department Transportation, Orange County Haz-mat and a number of area fire departments were also on the scene.

A large tow truck was brought in to stand the tanker back up.

Route 17K was closed for much of the day from Corbett Road in the Town of Montgomery to Union School House Road.
