Poughkeepsie church to host free spaghetti dinner for furloughed federal employees

POUGHKEEPSIE – The federal shutdown may be over, at least for now, but those impacted by the month-long furlough are not being forgotten.

The Poughkeepsie United Methodist Church at 2381 New Hackensack Road in the Town of Poughkeepsie, will host a free spaghetti dinner for federal employees affected by the shutdown.

The dinner will be held between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Friday, February 1. All federal workers and their families are invited to attend.

“This is a night to set politics aside, and to minister to the needs of our friends and neighbors who are feeling the direct impact of lost pay,” said Dale Borchert, one of the event coordinators. “Our church is responding as Methodists tend to, by providing food, fellowship and an opportunity to talk with supportive friends and neighbors.”

Borchert said the “outpouring of support from our congregation has been tremendous.”
