Location for Monticello ice skating rink changed

MONTICELLO – The ice skating rink planned for the corner of St. John Street and Broadway in the Village of Monticello is now being set up in the parking lot on North Street near the neighborhood center.

The rink idea came from Mayor Gary Sommers who first initiated the program when he was mayor 20 years ago. He wanted to bring back the facility to provide recreational opportunities for young people, not only from Monticello, but from throughout Sullivan County.

The move of the rink comes thanks to the Town of Thompson. Supervisor William Rieber offered to install the rink in the new location as a neighborly gesture.
