Junior League seeks to empower young women

POUGHKEEPSIE – The Junior League of Poughkeepsie is hosting a Girl's Empowerment Day on February 23rd at the Marist College Boat House.  The event is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and has space for 60 high school age girls (9-12 grades) to attend.

"Girl's Empowerment Day is an important day showing our females how to be a leader, how to deal with the everyday stresses in life and how to prepare for the future," said Junior League President Linda Fakhoury.

An attorney, Fakhoury said the day is designed "to give young women valuable tools and insights helping them become future leaders while helping them become stronger and more confident in their everyday lives."

The Junior League of Poughkeepsie's event will give the students an opportunity to meet and interact with local professional women from a variety of professions.

A group of speakers will be presenting on a variety of topics including Career Goals, Volunteerism, Self-Esteem Building, Conflict Resolution and a variety of other relevant issues.
