Congressional effort underway for second time to honor Hinchey, Gilman

WASHINGTON – Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney (D, NY-18) has reintroduced bills to honor late Hudson Valley Congressmen Maurice Hinchey and Benjamin Gilman by adding their names to local landmarks.

The bill honoring Hinchey would add his name to the Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area, which Hinchey worked to establish. The other bill would honor Gilman, who served on the House Post Office and Civil Service Commission, by adding his name to the post office at 40 Fulton Street in Middletown, his hometown.

Every member of the New York delegation signed on to each bill as an original cosponsor.

“The Hudson Valley lost two beloved representatives over the past couple of years, and it’s only fitting that we honor them by adding their names to local landmarks,” said Maloney.
