Mamakating judge Dolan runs for Sullivan County Court; DA Farrell to announce soon

Dolan: "critical role"

MONTICELLO – Mamakating Town Judge Cynthia Dolan announced on Monday she is a candidate for Sullivan County Court judge on the Democratic line this fall.  Republican District Attorney James Farrell is expected to announce his bid for the bench shortly.

Longtime County Court Judge Frank LaBuda will reach the mandatory retirement age and must step down.

Dolan said county court judge plays “a critical role” in the lives of county residents and she believes she is well qualified to hold the post.

“The judge must not only have the legal experience, but temperament and education that I have on legal matters, but also bring common sense, empathy and real-life experience to ensure that justice is done,” she said.

County Republican Chairman Richard Coombe said Farrell will be the best candidate for the job.

“He is so well qualified, has been a tremendous DA, will be a tremendous judge and has amazing support in all 15 towns and the villages also,” Coombe said.

County Court judge also serves as acting Supreme Court justice.
