Second domestic murder-suicide in Middletown in eight days

Tragedy at a quiet home in Middletown

MIDDLETOWN – A Middletown man shot and killed his wife in their Middletown home Tuesday and then killed himself, Middletown Police said.

The victims were identified as a retired Westchester County police officer, Francis Pumillo, 55, of 70 Vincent Drive and his wife, Amanda Pumillo, 45, a nurse at a local hospital.

The couple was found dead in the garage of their home in the residential neighborhood shortly after 8 p.m. when a female neighbor went there to inquire as to why Mrs. Pumillo had not reported to work for her scheduled shift.

The couple was apparently home alone at the time and there do not appear to be any other involved parties in the incident.

The weapon used was legally possessed by Francis.

Just eight days ago, Middletown Police investigated another murder-suicide in which Dennis Hercules, 58, of 148 Monhagen Avenue shot and killed his wife, Jasmin Emanuel, 52, and then turned the gun on himself.
