Driver falls asleep at wheel, crashes into Milton building

Driver fell asleep and demolished the deli Saturday morning

MILTON – A Newburgh man, driving south on Route 9W in Milton fell asleep at the wheel of his Jeep Grand Cherokee just after 7:30 Saturday morning, hit a pothole catapulting the vehicle into the air crashing into the Kirky’s Deli building.

Marlboro Town Police said Jamel Donaldson, 25, was transported to a hospital for evaluation.

His SUV struck a parked vehicle and a third car was damaged from debris.

A customer was also injured from debris. His wife posted on Facebook that he suffered four broken ribs and bruises.

The investigation is continuing. Marlboro Police were assisted by Mobile Life Support Services and Milton Fire Department.
