Greene County bank robber sentenced to prison

CATSKILL – A man who held up the NBT Bank branch in Windham on October 18, 2018 armed with what appeared to be a pistol was sentenced, Tuesday, on a robbery charge to 13 years in state prison and five years of post-release supervision.

Gary Pett admitted that he held up the bank and made off with a substantial amount of money, most of which was recovered when he was apprehended in less than 24 hours.

Pett wore a face mask, goggles and gloves to disguise his appearance, but he was arrested following an intense investigation by the Greene County sheriff’s Office, State Police, the New York City Department of Environmental Protection, with assistance from Greene County 911 dispatchers, Herkimer County 911 dispatchers, bank employees, an off-duty firefighter and concerned area residents.
