Sommers to run in Monticello elections

Sommers: "Moved the
village forward"

MONTICELLO – Gary Sommers, the current mayor of Monticello, who was appointed last year to fill a vacancy, said he will run in the March election.

Sommers, who served as village mayor 20 years ago, said a major accomplishment during his current tenure is not making headlines.

“I think we moved the village forward. If nothing else, we have gotten ourselves out of the public eye as much as we were and I think that is just as important as any other headway we could make.”

Sommers will be running for the remaining year of the current term. No other candidate has stepped forward at this point.

Monday was the first day for a candidate to secure petition signatures.
