Middletown man kills wife, turns gun on himself

All was quiet at the home Monday morning, hours after the tragedy

MIDDLETOWN – Police are ruling the deaths of a husband and wife in their Middletown home Sunday evening as a murder-suicide.

The investigation revealed that Dennis Hercules, 58, of 148 Monhagen Avenue and his wife, Jasminn Emanuel 52, were engaged in an apparent domestic dispute when Hercules shot and killed her and then turned the gun on himself.

There does not appear to be any other involved parties and the weapon used was legally possessed by Hercules, police said. A review of police calls for service did not reveal any previous responses to the home for domestic-related calls for service.

The investigation is continuing, but police said no additional suspects are being sought.

The investigation was conducted by the Middleton Police Department Detective Division, the State Police and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
