Former State Police major named director of state office of emergency management


ALBANY – Former State Police Troop K Major Michael Kopy has been named Governor’s Office Director of Emergency Management, by Governor Cuomo.

Kopy was a state trooper for over 30 years and retired as Troop K commander. He has served as the fire chief of the Village of Mamaroneck Fire Department during which time he was named Westchester County Volunteer Firefighter of the Year. He also served as the director of the Westchester County Chiefs of Police Association.

Kopy has received training in emergency preparedness, including accreditations from the state Wildlife Academy and FEMA’s National Incident Management System and has led the response to various disasters across the state.
