First candidate emerges for Orange County Surrogate Court judge


GOSHEN – Attorney Timothy McElduff, Jr. of Slate Hill announced on Thursday that he will seek election to the post of Orange County Surrogate judge next fall. Current judge Robert Onofry must retire this year under the state’s age retirement requirement for county judges.

Onofry was sworn in on Thursday to serve on the bench this year.

McElduff practiced law for over 20 years and is a partner in a New Windsor law firm. His practice has focused on civil litigation with experience in surrogate court matters like estate administration, will contests, guardianships, judicial accountings, removal/appointment of fiduciaries, and discovery proceedings.

For the past 12 years, McElduff has also served as a Town of Wawayanda town justice, having run on the Republican, Conservative and Independence Party lines.
