Poughkeepsie shooting victim dies

POUGHKEEPSIE – A 28-year-old Poughkeepsie man, who was shot in the head on February 4, has died. The incident occurred at South Cherry and Church streets in the City of Poughkeepsie.

Shaheed James had been on life support following the shooting and on Friday he was removed from the system and died.

The 41-year-old city man, who was also shot, was released from the hospital. He was wounded in the leg while walking down the street and was an innocent bystander, police said.

The alleged shooter is a 15-year-old Poughkeepsie male, who has been arrested and charged with assault. It is expected that will be elevated to a murder charge.

The assailant is said to have walked up to James and shot him in the head.
