Rodriguez not seeking re-election to Ulster legislature

Rodriguez: "... a personal toll ..."

KINGSTON – Long-time Ulster County Legislator Hector Rodriguez has announced he will not seek re-election in November.

Sixteen years is a very long time in elected office, he said, noting announcing now will give enough time for new candidates to announce before petitions go out in late February.

“When I started in 2003, the county was faced with a law enforcement facility it could ill afford, skyrocketing tax increases, a little by the way of economic development or environmental protection,” he said. “Working with my colleagues we changed that. We even wrote a charge and changed the whole government. It’s time for a new generation to pick up the mantle.”

Rodriguez said being a legislator, most recently minority leader, “took a personal toll on me for many years. I’m hoping for the next phase of life after the next 11 months.”
