Kingston man, wanted for grand larceny, arrested


KINGSTON – Police in the City of Kingston arrested a Kingston man who was wanted on warrants from Ulster Police for grand larceny, and by the Ulster Sheriff’s Office on a family court warrant.

When Joseph Banks, 33, was spotted near Academy Green Park early in the morning of Tuesday, February 5, he fled and after a brief scuffle, was taken into custody.

He was also charged with criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument, resisting arrest, petit larceny and attempted grand larceny relating to recent thefts.

On December 8, 2018, Banks allegedly attempted to steal equipment and tools valued at over $1,000 from Herzog’s Home Center in Kingston Plaza but dropped the merchandise while trying to flee. On February 1, 2019, he stole 16 scratch-off lottery tickets from Stewart’s Shop at 1 Boulevard in Kingston and fled. He was identified in both cases through video security surveillance.
